16 Days of Activism 2025
Ending digital abuse
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is a global campaign that runs from 25 November to 10 December each year. In 2025, the Northern Territory is focusing on ending digital abuse.
Digital abuse is when someone uses technology to control, harm, threaten or monitor another person. It is a form of gender-based violence and disproportionately affects women and girls.
What is digital abuse
Digital abuse can involve phones, apps, social media or other technology. It can happen in relationships, families, workplaces, schools or communities.
Examples of digital abuse include:
- reading someone’s private messages without permission
- tracking someone’s location using an app or device
- sharing sexual or intimate images without consent
- doxxing (posting someone’s personal information online)
- sending threats or bullying online
These behaviours may be part of a pattern of coercive control. They can cause serious emotional, psychological and social harm.
What you can do
Everyone has a role in preventing digital abuse. You can:
- learn the signs of digital abuse
- check in with someone who may be affected
- report harmful behaviour on digital platforms or to authorities
- contact a support service for guidance
How to get involved
- using the dedicated stakeholder pack PDF (1.1 MB)
- sharing content on your social media channels from Tuesday 25 November until Wednesday 10 December
- including or updating information on your website
- making a commitment to creating safe, online spaces for everyone
- sending information to your networks, members and clients via existing newsletters.
