#SafeHolidaySeason
We’re encouraging Territorians to speak out and take action against domestic, family and sexual violence.
The holiday season should be a time of joy, but for many, it can also bring stress and danger. Did you know the Northern Territory has the highest rate of domestic and family violence in the country? Unfortunately, the risk rises over the holidays.
Domestic and family violence is never OK. Together, we can make a difference by stepping up and speaking out.
If you see or hear violence, don’t stay silent. Report it to police on 131 444 or call 000 in an emergency.

DFSV in the Northern Territory
Data indicates that domestic and family violence incidents in Australia, including the Northern Territory (NT), tend to increase during the Christmas and New Year period.
This rise is attributed to factors such as heightened financial pressures, increased alcohol consumption, and extended periods spent at home, all of which can exacerbate tensions within households.
The NT consistently reports the highest rates of domestic violence in the country. In 2021, the NT's domestic and family violence-related assault rates were 3 times the national average and 5 times higher than most other jurisdictions.
Additionally, the NT's domestic violence homicide rate is 7 times the national average.
