16 Days of Activism: NT Health

Published

NT Health's Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) and Palmerston Regional Hospital (PRH) has developed a strong community of practice to respond to gender-based violence and connect those affected with support services. Today, as part of the 16 Days of Activism, we shine a light on their vital work.

As two of the Northern Territory’s biggest public hospitals, RDH and PRH are on the frontline, responding to some of the worst impacts of domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV). To improve their response to DFSV, RDH and PRH staff collected data and interviewed some of the individuals accessing care through the emergency department. This information was then used to streamline and enhance processes, and form partnerships with non-government organisations to better support those impacted by DFSV.

RDH and PRH have also developed a range of resources and led education workshops, lectures and meetings to inform health professionals about how they can best support those impacted by DFSV.

Watch Dr Lucy Owen, Emergency Physician at RDH and PRH, talk about the importance of building community and connection to help support those impacted by gender-based violence.
