16 Days of Activism
Tuesday 25 November marks the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a global campaign that calls on communities to take action to prevent violence and support the safety and wellbeing of women and girls.
This year’s campaign focuses on a growing issue across Australia, digital violence. As technology becomes more deeply embedded in our everyday lives, harmful behaviours such as monitoring devices, reading private messages, tracking locations, sharing sexual images without consent, doxxing, threats and online bullying have become more common.
These behaviours are forms of coercive control, and they can have significant and long-lasting impacts on a person’s safety, confidence and independence.
Our commitment in the NT
The Northern Territory Government is continuing to strengthen its response to domestic, family and sexual violence. The start of this year’s campaign also marks the release of a refreshed Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Reduction Strategy 2025–2028 and safety roadmap, outlining a coordinated, Territory-wide approach to improving safety and reducing violence.
The 16 Days of Activism supports the Strategy’s focus on prevention, earlier intervention and stronger responses for those experiencing harm. It also reinforces the importance of creating safe online and offline environments, particularly for women and girls.
How Territorians can help
Throughout the campaign, agencies, services and community partners will share ways Territorians can:
- recognise the signs of digital abuse
- support people who feel unsafe
- promote respectful online behaviour
- report harmful or abusive online content
Join us
We invite all Territorians to join us from Tuesday 25 November to Wednesday 10 December in taking a stand against gender-based violence.
