New DFSV Roadmap released to help Territorians stay safe

Published

The Northern Territory Government has released the Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Safety Roadmap – a clear, practical guide to help Territorians recognise the signs of violence, know where to get help and understand services available to keep people safe.

The Roadmap has been launched alongside the Northern Territory Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Reduction Strategy 2025–2028, which underpins the Roadmap with a coordinated, whole-of-government approach to reduce violence and improve community safety across the Territory.

Supported by $36 million a year in ongoing DFSV investment, the Strategy brings together 8 NT Government agencies to deliver 45 initiatives across 4 priority areas: prevention, intervention, response and healing, and system reform.

Developed with frontline services, Aboriginal community-controlled organisations and key stakeholders, the Strategy focuses on early intervention and support, accountability, and community-led prevention, reflecting what Territorians have said matters most.

Key initiatives backed by the Strategy

  • New culturally safe prison programs, including programs for offenders who have previously denied responsibility for violence.
  • A Territory-wide DFSV Training and Resource Centre for risk assessment, cultural safety and trauma-informed practice.
  • A permanent DFSV Partnership Group to strengthen collaboration between government, services and people with lived experience.
  • Expansion of the Circuit Breaker Program in Darwin, Katherine and Alice Springs.
  • Expansion of the Specialist DFSV Court model to 2 additional locations from 2027 - 2028.
  • Increased Men’s Behaviour Change Programs across regional and remote communities.

The Strategy supports Closing the Gap Target 13 and includes actions informed by the 2024 DFV Coronial Inquest and broader community and sector feedback.
