World Care Day 2026
NT young people raise their voices to break barriers this World Care Day
Friday 20 February is World Care Day – a global celebration of children and young people with care experience.
World Care Day recognises the strength, resilience and achievements of young people who are in – or have been in – foster, kinship or residential care. This year’s theme, Breaking Barriers, calls on all of us to help remove the obstacles that can stand in the way of young people reaching their full potential.
Across Australia, young people with care experience are sharing their stories to help #SnapThatStigma and challenge misconceptions about growing up in care.
NT young people share their voices
In the Northern Territory, young people recently came together with local rap artist Riley P through the CREATE Foundation to write and record an original song, I won’t give up.
The song shares a powerful message about resilience, determination and chasing dreams despite challenges. It was developed through a youth-led song writing workshop that created a safe space for young people to express themselves and influence change.
To listen to the song I won't give up, go to the Create Foundation website.
Supporting carers helps break barriers
World Care Day is also an opportunity to recognise the vital role of foster and kinship carers and Aboriginal community organisations who provide safe and loving homes for children.
Supporting carers is one of the most practical ways we can improve stability and break down barriers for children in care.
If you have ever thought about becoming a carer, now is a powerful time to learn more.
