Youth Homelessness Matters Day highlights importance of early support

The department recently joined community partners at Civic Park to mark Youth Homelessness Matters Day.

Delivered in partnership with Anglicare NT, NT Shelter and the City of Darwin, the event brought together services and the community to raise awareness of youth homelessness and the importance of early support.

Youth homelessness is not always visible. For many young people, it can look like couch surfing, staying somewhere unsafe, or not knowing where to go.

Chief Executive Officer Brent Warren attended the event alongside sector leaders, reinforcing the importance of early support to help young people stay safe, connected to family, engaged in education and on a path toward training and employment.

The Northern Territory Government is progressing this work through the Northern Territory Homelessness Strategy 2025–2030 PDF (19.3 MB), which focuses on prevention, culturally safe services, and stronger coordination across the service system.

The event also featured the annual couch racing, with teams bringing energy and a strong show of support for young people across the Territory.
