Investing in frontline specialist domestic, family and sexual violence services
The Northern Territory Government has announced $8.4 million in funding under the Rebuilding our Economy: Investing in Frontline Specialist Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Services program. This funding is designed to support essential frontline services that deliver safety and support to victim-survivors of domestic, family, and sexual violence (DFSV) across the Territory.
About the funding program
The funding program aims to:
- Provide critical emergency shelter, legal support, and culturally appropriate services for victim-survivors of DFSV.
- Strengthen the capacity of frontline service providers to meet urgent and ongoing needs.
- Enable the implementation of the Domestic and Family Violence Risk Assessment and Management Framework (RAMF) across all funded organisations, ensuring a consistent, Territory-wide approach to assessing and managing DFSV risks.
Why this program is important
Domestic, family, and sexual violence is a significant issue in the Northern Territory, requiring coordinated and responsive services to ensure the safety and well-being of women, children, and families. This funding program addresses key service delivery gaps and ensures providers can respond flexibly to emerging needs, particularly in remote and culturally diverse communities.
Types of services funded
The funding supports:
- Women’s safe houses that provide emergency accommodation and case management for women and children escaping violence.
- Legal services that assist victim-survivors with applying for Domestic Violence Orders (DVOs), legal advice, and navigating the justice system.
- Community-led and culturally safe initiatives tailored to the needs of Aboriginal families.
- Practical safety upgrades, including deadlocks, security screens, and emergency financial assistance for essential living expenses.
