Darwin homelessness services

We work with homelessness providers, including the YiSSA short-stay facility in Marrara, to make sure people in the Northern Territory have access to safe shelter and essential support. YiSSA is run by Yilli Rreung Housing Aboriginal Corporation and Mission Australia NT.

The facility provides accommodation for about 350 people each night, through 50 visitor accommodation (short stay up to 28 days) and 141 transitional accommodation rooms under the Integrated Supported Homelessness Accommodation Program (IHSAP).

Outreach Worker Program

The Outreach Worker Program at YiSSA, delivered by Mission Australia NT, helps people affected by domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV) by:

  • developing tailored safety plans
  • providing therapeutic care for emotional and mental wellbeing
  • connecting individuals and families to long-term support services for stability and independence.

The outreach program is part of the IHSAP. This program brings together housing and support services to help people achieve stability and transition to long-term housing.

Domestic and family violence and homelessness

Domestic and family violence is one of the main reasons people experience homelessness in the Northern Territory. Almost 30% of people who seek homelessness services cite it as the primary cause. Programs like the one offered at YiSSA address this issue by providing immediate shelter and linking people to pathways for long-term safety and support.

Funding and support

We provide funding and support to homelessness services in the Northern Territory. Our goal is to ensure people experiencing vulnerability have access to the resources they need to stay safe and rebuild their lives.
